You can update jdk, however, you will need to configure tomcat5 and mod_jk to use the updated versions. RHEL5 uses a configuration utility called alternatives that should be used if at all possible. For instance:

# yum install java-1.6.0-sun-devel
# /usr/sbin/alternatives –config java
# /usr/sbin/alternatives –config javac
# java –version
# javac –version
# /etc/init.d/httpd restart
# /etc/init.d/tomcat5 restart

I have not tested the above, but I will once I get into the office today.

Hi.
Thanks a lot for this nice startup guide.
I follow all steps until
“Now restart apache:

/etc/init.d/httpd configtest”

I’ve got the follow error:
Syntax error on line 8 of /etc/httpd/conf.d/mod_jk.conf:
JKLogStampFormat takes one argument, The Tomcat module log format, follow strftime syntax

Some help?
